During the summer, the city of Providence serves free lunches in the parks to anyone under 18. Summer OFF is designed to complement the city lunch program with games, crafts, puppets, sports, and the good news about Jesus.

What started as a one week outreach project in 2009 developed into a thriving summer ministry that includes over ten churches serving enthusiastically in four parks in Providence.

What will you do?

As an intern you will work hard each day in one or more city parks. You will help lead sports and games, share the gospel, do crafts, talk with kids, and respond to program needs.

You will be working with a small team of interns, different churches, and our own Philip Center staff.

You will also study the Bible together, as you are challenged to see the work of the gospel in your own heart. We want to see you experience gospel transformation as you live in community and welcome others to speak into your life.

You'll visit different inner-city churches, meet church planters and pastors, and serve at the Providence Rescue Mission.

You'll also hear our vision for this exciting and expanding ministry and help us shape the future of gospel growth in Rhode Island through your observations.

But it won't be all work! You'll get to enjoy our foodie city and the beautiful beaches of Rhode Island, and you'll have the freedom to explore more of the state, as well as Boston and other nearby attractions.

Cost and support raising

The cost of your Summer OFF internship will be between $2,000 and $3,600, depending on how much you will decide to raise as your salary for the summer. You will be responsible for raising your funds—like most missions trips.

You'll live at the Rhode Island School of Design in the heart of Providence, near Brown University and the hopping food scene of Thayer Street.

Transportation throughout the summer will be arranged for by the Philip Center, including public transportation. You will be responsible for getting to and from Providence at the beginning and end of the internship.

Your meals will also be covered by the Philip Center for all of your working days. Meals out on your days off will be your personal expense.
